چکیده

Abstract Herbivores select host plants depending on plant quality and the presence of predators competitors. Competing herbivores change quantity through consumption, but they can also induction defences, this affects performance that arrive later plant. Some herbivores, such as spider mite Tetranychus evansi , do not induce, suppress later-arriving profit from suppression. It has been suggested dense web produced by serves to prevent other settle benefit suppressed defences. Here, we confirmed studying preference whitefly Bemisia tabaci a generalist herbivorous pest. To disentangle effects changes in defences spider-mite web, included treatments with strain closely-related web-producing T. urticae which induces Whiteflies did perform worse induced but, contrast better . Moreover, both mites reduced juvenile survival whiteflies, whiteflies avoided were covered web. Hence, was only affected mites, thus protect against potential competitors, especially when these could suppression mites.

Aphid-induced Defences in Chilli Affect Preferences of the Whitefly, Bemisia tabaci (Hemiptera: Aleyrodidae)

The sweetpotato whitefly (WF), Bemisia tabaci, is a major pest that damages a wide range of vegetable crops in Malaysia. WF infestation is influenced by a variety of factors, including previous infestation of the host plant by other insect pests. This study investigated the effects of previous infestation of host chilli plants by the green peach aphid (Myzus persicae) on the olfactory behaviour...

The Salicylic Acid-Mediated Release of Plant Volatiles Affects the Host Choice of Bemisia tabaci

The whitefly Bemisia tabaci (Gennadius) (Hemiptera: Aleyrodidae) causes serious crop losses worldwide by transmitting viruses. We have previously shown that salicylic acid (SA)-related plant defenses directly affect whiteflies. In this study, we applied exogenous SA to tomato plants in order to investigate the interaction between SA-induced plant volatiles and nonviruliferous B. tabaci B and Q ...

Host associated genetic variations in whitefly, Bemisia tabaci (Genn.)

Genetic variability due to host plants was studied in whitefly, Bemisia tabaci (Genn.), populations that were collected from fields of different crops (cotton, brinjal, potato, tomato and soyabean) and a weed (Sida sp.), and maintained on their respective host plants for 12 generations. Comparative RAPD-PCR analysis of these populations led to identification of 85 different polymorphic bands or...

Differential transcriptional activity of plant-pathogenic begomoviruses in their whitefly vector (Bemisia tabaci, Gennadius: Hemiptera Aleyrodidae).

Plant-pathogenic begomoviruses have a complex association with their whitefly vector and aspects concerning virus genetic activity (genome replication and gene transcription) within the insect remain highly controversial. Virus transcript abundance was assessed by quantifying selected gene transcripts of Tomato mottle virus (ToMoV, a New World bipartite begomovirus) and Tomato yellow leaf curl ...
